Sonic Rewritten is now taking its first steps and I am absolutley NOT terrified... Not even slightly... ... (Ahem!)... Anyway, here you go to get started...
And as I am still new to storymaking, feel free to add ideas on what should happen next as I MIGHT be running out of ideas already around... Page 300 on the Document version of this tale...
Chapter 1: New “Old” Memories
[Another day begins inside the home of Allen Bronski, the father-figure of the over 72 vigintillion soldier siblings, known as the packlings. And yes, a vigintillion is a real number. One young packing in particular, who slept outside the magic backpack where they normally reside, has woken up around 8:05 to get dressed and ready for the day. As he walks past the living room, he can’t help but notice two of his brothers playing Sonic the Hedgehog 3 and Knuckles while their sister cheers them on. About 25 minutes later, the young packling has just finished getting ready for the day, but suddenly notices the strange sound of scribbling. Turning into the kitchen, he sees Allen Bronski drawing a particular comic. When approaching to see it better the packing asks, in his alien language:]
Packing: #####?
Allen: This? Oh, it’s a weird “Sonic the Hedgehog” fanfic comic of mine…
[We take a look at the first panel as we see Sonic standing, ready for action.]
Narrator: As always, Sonic dashes across his home world trying to save it from the ruthless attacks of the evil Dr. Robotnik (a.k.a.: Dr. Eggman). It can be tough, but thankfully, he’s not alone. Over the years, he has made friends you know quite well such as Tails, Knuckles, and Amy Rose. However, do you have those times when you begin to remember someone you’d thought you’d never forget? Uh… Well…
[As Sonic runs across the grassy fields of the Green Hill Zone, he is suddenly shocked with a variety of memories forcing their way into his mind all at once. While there are far too many memories than can be explained, a few in particular managed to be, for a brief moment, slightly more noticeable for the Blue Blur… Some are silhouettes of people he felt like he should recognize but couldn’t. These figures, sadly, appear only for a brief moment. Other memories are him affectionately hugging people whose faces are far too blurred and shadowed for Sonic to recognize, but he could remember that these hugs meant the world to him. And finally, one memory sticks out to him the most. This one includes him as Super Sonic, somewhere out of the world’s orbit, simply scribbling the word “HI” on a window from the inside of a…space station?]
[All of these memories, and countless others, crash into Sonic for a moment so quickly, even Sonic himself would find it too fast to comprehend. It takes all of his concentration to keep running and not stumble on his own feet for the whole experience. Sonic would never admit this, but the experience was ultimately overwhelming, maybe even terrifying, although he wasn’t sure why. In the split two seconds all of this happens, Sonic finally stumbles as he fails to notice a rock, tripping over it and being dragged across the ground for a good quarter-mile, a new record for him in speed-tripping over these memories. Clutching his headache, Sonic groggily begins to get up…]
Sonic: Ugh… Man… Not AGAIN… Ever since that Time Eater incident, I’ve been having tidal waves of these flashbacks! But what ARE they?! Friends? Foes? Altered realities? Something that I just keep making up?
[Yes, Sonic has been plagued by these memories for quite some time now. Ever since he had defeated the vicious destroyer of history, and possibly existence, the Time Eater, from the game “Sonic Generations”, these memories have been nagging at him, slowly getting stronger and stronger. From how Sonic could comprehend it, it was almost as if reality was telling him that the timeline was far from repaired. Sonic has on occasion tried to understand and repair reality, but with no way of sorting out, or even understanding these memories, it was mostly just a waste of a Super Sonic transformation. Turns out, Chaos Control is quite useless if you don’t know what it is that you actually want chaos to do. Even if he did, he couldn’t shake the feeling that even THAT wouldn’t be enough…
[Unbeknownst to a lot of people, even to his closest friends, the events of the game “Sonic Forces” had a huge impact on Sonic and these memories for a particular reason:]
Sonic: (Thinking:) The weird thing is… These flashbacks were a LOT stronger and WAY more common during the whole Infinite mess… During the whole thing, I thought it was just Infinite messing my head with one of those illusion tricks he loved to do so much. But now…
[Sonic thinks for a moment, tapping his foot, and showing a strange form of patience and consideration that could tell his closest friends that this was a serious matter. Due to being quite proud of his super speed, Sonic was not known for his patience, refusing to let any threat come to anyone by being too late to do something about it. After all, what good is being the fastest thing alive if you couldn’t help your friends in record time? Regardless, Sonic finally sighs, and begins to to start running again, a little slower than he would have preferred…]
Sonic: (Thinking:) Ugh… All of these memories and questions are REALLY slowing me down… Maybe I SHOULD let Tails in on all of this… Or maybe I should confront Eggman about it, and see if HE has anything to do with these memories… Then again, if he actually DID have something to do with it, he would have gloated about it by now… Unless he was planning to…
[Sonic shakes off the idea as Eggman would NEVER miss a chance to mockingly hint at a scheme like… whatever it was Sonic’s mind was going with this. With that thought in mind, and realizing that he is STILL in the Green Hill Zone, he realizes that:]
Sonic: (Thinking:) …And I’m being slowed down again by considering these options. Great…
[Now really annoyed, the young hedgehog dashes across a loop-de-loop, and frees a few critters trapped inside Eggman’s robotic minions, the badniks, by smashing them all open with a few good old-fashioned spin attacks. Using the momentum from the attacks, he reaches a ledge and keeps going.]
Sonic: (Thinking:) Ugh… I’m beginning to get REAL sick of these new “old” memories… Assuming they’re even REAL to begin with…
[The hedgehog notices a ledge of a cliff up ahead. Normally, he’d jump over it, land on the ground, and keep running without even thinking about it. But today, with so much on his mind, it didn’t feel like a good day to even do that. Instead, he stopped and looked over it. Imagining himself holding the concept of these memories, he looked down over the edge and imagined the usual bottomless pit he’d been so accustomed to avoiding.]
Sonic: (Thinking:) I SHOULD just get rid of them… Let them go… … But…
[Sonic sighs, knowing that deep down, he couldn’t let them go. He might never know why, but regardless of how little he could make sense of them or how much they affected his ability to work at speeds the way he preferred… These memories would always be important to him.
[Suddenly, there is a huge explosion and a large puff of smoke seen a few miles past the mountains. Sonic takes notice of it, and, due to experience of running around these lands for years now, knows that the explosion is at Vista View, most likely under attack by Eggman once again. With the explosion, and the memories still in mind, Sonic jumps off the ledge. During this, something occurs to Sonic, something he felt should have been OBVIOUS for him:]
Sonic: (Thinking:) Nah… These memories… They don’t slow me down THAT much. Actually, come to think of it… They somehow make me FASTER…
[And indeed it does, for once he lands on the ground, he takes off running at speeds that should have been a desperate sprint, even for him. But today, these speeds felt boosted as if a surge of energy had burst inside of him. With it, he would be reaching the town in less than a minute, not the usual 2-and-a-half minutes it would take for him, if he was REALLY in a rush.]
Sonic: (Thinking:) Still… That being said, I should probably start looking into this whole thing. Start figuring out what it’s all about and all that… Then again, knowing how my life goes… It’ll probably start catching up with me soon enough.
[There were no bystanders when Sonic rushed over to Vista View. But if there were, they would have noticed a strange spark in Sonic’s eyes, and a similar spark on the edge of the quills on the back of his head, like something was returning to him. In fact, if these supposed observers had watched Sonic run, they would have felt a strange essence on the path that Sonic had just run. Some of these imaginary travelers would claim that something…bizarre was on it. Almost as if… something once lost had somehow returned to it…]
